Tucked away in the busiest area of Fields Avenue is a classy little boutique hotel named the Orange Lion.
This hotel is literally situated in the heart of the action yet despite this the hotel is quiet and relaxing, making it the perfect little hideaway for a romantic interlude or just a simple change of pace.
When the partying demands of Fields Avenue take their toll I recommend a visit to the Orange Lion Restaurant/Café. Here you can escape the maddening crowd for a quiet drink or a romantic interlude with your chosen partner.
This café has a classy, functional and pleasantly relaxing ambience combining quality food, an abundance of woodwork, numerous imported beers, pool tables, friendly and efficient staff, and a great little bar area perfect for enjoying a cleansing ale with new found friends.
The name Orange Lion is somewhat unique so I asked the owner where did he come up with this name and he replied because orange is the traditional color of Holland, look at our football team, and our national emblem portrayed on the Dutch flag is a lion. When this was explained to me the name all of a sudden made perfect sense.
The relaxing atmosphere is apparent before you even enter the front door. Outside they have a veranda with 4 tables and comfortable cane lounge chairs perfect for relaxing in and just watching the events as they unfold on Fields Avenue. This is a cozy little area and it is good fun sitting here enjoying a drink or two and a tasty meal.
When out here you will be approached by vendors trying to sell you a range of goods, anything from DVD’s through to Viagra and leather belts. If this becomes a problem simply ask the doorman to tell them to go away. I have seen the doormen just look at a vendor without uttering one word and this was enough to scare him away.
Inside the restaurant / café the relaxed classy ambience is maintained with the extensive use of wood, subdued lighting, softly piped music, reproduction movie posters decorate the walls along with some eloquent lamps and advertising posters. There are also many quaint statues and decorations proudly denoting the owners Dutch heritage. The overall effect is one of modern eloquence and functionality combined with a uniquely European relaxing ambience, in the heart of Fields Avenue.
In the front area the restaurant / café features 8 solid wooden tables with four seats assigned to each table.
The tables are solid wood and obviously hand crafted as are the chairs which are big enough to comfortably sit even the largest man. The floor is also wooden planks stained a light brown color and the shelves around the edge of the room are also wooden. The lighting is distinctly subdued which gives guests much sought after privacy and again contributes to the subtle ambience that is the trademark of this establishment.
All around the walls are decorated with movie posters along with various signage advertising the products for sale here.

There is also reasonably sized wine rack and advertising for some of the 40 plus imported beers from all around the world which are available here.

To the best of my knowledge this is the largest range of imported beer available in Angeles and I thoroughly enjoyed gulping down a cold Kilkenny prior to tucking into my Sheppard’s Pie.
Everywhere around the room you can see little statues or figurines which all contribute to the general ambience.
In the centre of the room is the bar area which is the perfect place to enjoy a cool ale or two while you swap a few stories or talk over old times with your mates.
Again the bar counter top is solid varnished wood. This bar is extremely well stocked including all the major spirits and of course the beers from all corners of the world plus draft beer both San Miguel Light and San Miguel.
At the bar you can also purchase a range of shakes and even freshly squeezed orange juice or brewed coffee for those burning the midnight oil.
These days no place is complete without WiFi so feel free to bring your laptop in fact if you need to use your computer I can think of no place better. The environment is quiet the connection reasonably quick for the Philippines and there is plenty of space on the sturdy tables.
The back half of the restaurant / café acts as a sports bar. In here they have two pool tables and they don’t seem to be over patronized so this would be a good place for a game since they are in operation 24/7.
Various sporting memorabilia and signage decorate this area and add to the local pub like feeling.
Out the back is a small kitchen and it is simply amazing the quality and range of food that they produce. When we did this review I tried the Sheppard’s Pie whilst Shagger tucked into a lemon buttered John Dory. Both dishes were mouthwatering, excellently prepared and perfectly filling.
The man in charge of the kitchen is Paul ably assisted by his wife and they have just completed a new menu which includes dishes diverse as the English breakfast composed of Bacon, sausage, 2eggs, hash brown, mushroom, tomato, baked beans Fried potatoes, fried bread, toast, jam, butter, tea or coffee through to freshly made salads, an entire range of tasty soups, Dutch specialty dishes such as HUTSPOT with meatballs Mashed potatoes with carrots and onion. Traditional English dishes, Meat and potato pie. Chunks of beef, diced potatoes in a rich gravy topped with a pastry crust served with vegetables and choice of potatoes, pizza, Indonesian dishes, Thai Dishes, bowls of fresh fruit and for the sweet tooth an entire range of delicious deserts. This is truly a comprehensive menu with something for everyone and all items are competitively priced. The food is thoroughly enjoyable and the ambience in the restaurant perfect for enjoying a nice meal.
